Why is it OK for people to drink and drive when they are riding a motorcycle? Wouldn't it be harder to keep up right with only 2 wheels instead of 4? I see this on several runs and that is why my hubby and I don't do the runs because of the drinking and driving. We both indulge, but not when riding and find no fun riding with others that do. This is just my opinion and would like others to let me know their outlook on this subject. I am not looking to be mean or nasty just curious.

I don't like to drink tooo much while on the bike. On most runs you have ONE beer every 20-45 mins at a stop.. And most of our runs have 5 stops.. So, drink tea or pop. I may have two drinks, but stop after that. I know too many people that have died or crashed while drinking on a bike.

Good question, one that I've wondered about for quite a long while. I was a drinker, many years ago, and have a hard time trying to understand why, if the weather is so nice, you get together with people who ride, only to go to the bar. I do not have anything against drinking, just that it's not for me. This is the main reason that I find that I ride alone most of the time. I do wish that I could tag up with people that would like to enjoy the weather, and would like to do more than ride from one bar to another.

I've been an ABATE member since 1991 , I have only seen 1 instance with a cyclist that shouldn't have been riding and he showed up to the run intoxicated . That was a different chapter . I have been in 3 chapters over the years and have been on many runs . We have never been at one place long enough to have more than 1 drink and 5 or less stops are the norm in approx 4 to 5 hr run . My self I drink on average a bottle of wine every 2 or 3 months , so technically ya could call me a none drinker "almost" . I never drink more than a diet coke while on a run or anytime I am going to get on my bike . As a mater of fact there are quite a few like us . Don't let it ruin your fun .
